Shia’s Not Alone! Top Ten Biggest Drunks Of Hollywood

shiaShia labeouf has had a bad week and finally decided to check himself into rehab. His drunken antics are being splashed all over the entertainment news.  First he was nearly arrested and had to be restrained by police out of a theater for allegedly disrupting the first half of a Cabaret performance. Later he was caught on film getting into a fight outside a strip club.

And then of course the now infamous incident where he chased a homeless guy down the street in New York over a hat. And of course he’s picked up a D&D, and trespassing charge.

Inspired by Shias’s drunken debauchery we decided to find the worst of the worst of Hollywood.

 

1)Mel Gibson

Mel has been been getting drunken tdriving arrests since the early 80’s. He claimed in 2002 to having a bipolar disorder and said that he starte dgetting drink at the age of 13.

In 2006 while being arrested for a DUI he insulted a female police officer and had an anti-Semitic rant in which he blamed the Jewish people for all the wars in the world.

Later he made a very public apogy and check ed himsel fin to rehab. Later that year in a tv intereview he talked about his struggles with alcohol and where he made the remark  “The risk of everything—life, limb, family—is not enough to keep you from it . . . sometimes you need a cold bucket of water in the face to sort of snap to because you’re dealing with a sort of a malady of the soul, an obsession of the mind and a physical allergy. And some people need a big tap on the shoulder. In my case, public humiliation on a global scale seems to be what was required . . .”

2)William Holden

Famous for many moveis but especially Sunset Boulevard. Holden fell upon a table in a drinuken stupor and bled to death at his apartment in in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 63.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3)Hunter S Thompson

Hunter became famous for his style of journalism dubbed “gonzo journalism” and writing a couple of well received books Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Hell’s Angels.

He was widely known to alwasy have a bottle of wild turkey bourbon and for his drug-fuelled binges.

Always in trouble with the law Hunter being arrested for drunk driving and in a search of his house by the police which revealed drugs, firearms, and several sticks of dynamite, all charges against Thompson were ultimately dropped.

Thompson later  committed suicide in 2005.

4)Oliver Reed

The British born actor whose last film was gladiator in 1999 plated tough guys usually in movies like Oliver! and Hannibal Brooks. He later died on set after racking up a pub bill of 866$ and drinking 3 bottles of captain morgans. Later the director Riley Scot was forced to use CGI effects to finish the actors scenes

His great performances were overshadowed by his crazy antics on talk shows in which he succinctly proclaimed the location of a very personal tattoo. Another such episode saw Reed staggering with a booze-filled pitcher, and upstaging the show by dancing in spastic inebriation. The most poignant of his antics occurred during the filming of his final film, Gladiator, in 1999.

5)Orson Wells

At 25, Orson Welles wrote, directed, and starred in one of the best films of the past century, Citizen Kane;

Afterwards after having a hard time finding work likely became depressed where he ballooned to over 350 pounds.His appetite for alcohol is evident in a well circulated video clip in which Welles stumbles through a reading for a commercial for Paul Masson’s California champagne. Having decided to sample the product prior to filming, Welles falls asleep between takes, slurs his lines, and stares uneasily at the camera through bleary eyes. While not the most outrageous of characters in terms of behavior, the depth of this former prodigy’s descent from the pinnacle of film to drunkenly reading for liquor advertisements stands as the saddest and most remarkable of the lot.

6)Shane McGowan

The former front man of the Irish punk band, The Pogues, has never been shy about his fondness for recreational drugs. Over the years you can see him literally losing his teeth.. He claimed to start drinking  stout at the age of 4 and whiskey at 10. But is even more famous for his incomprehensible interviews.

In 1991 the Pogues were forced to kick him out . In 2001, The Pogues reunited with McGowan as the lead vocalist. Shortly after, McGowan vomited on several members of the audience in the front row.

 

 

7)Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash AKA The man in black  is well known for his use of alcohol, amphetamines and barbiturates. In 1965, Cash’s car started a forest fire that consumed several hundred acres of land and killed several dozen endangered condors. He became the only person at the time to be sued by the federal government for starting a forest fire. Several years later, the country singer attempted suicide after growing tired of the pain his various addictions inflicted upon his family.

In the early 1970’s  whole on on e of his drug and alcohol binges decided to crawl into Nickajack Cave in Marion County, Tennessee so that he might join the ranks of the many lost explorers of that cave. Cash moved into the depths of the cave until his flashlight died.At this, his lowest point, Cash experienced a spiritual epiphany and a renewed vigor. After several long hours in the dark he managed to extricate himself from the cave. From that point on, Cash sought treatment and maintained sobriety, thanks to the support of his family.

8)Stephen King

The famous author who is famous for his horror stories has his fair share of horror in his ersonal life as well. Having to face multiple addictions, including alcohol, prescription drugs, and illegal drugs.

Later he admitted to being drunk when he delivered his mother’s eulogy. In his memoir, On Writing, King writes of how a friend accused the author of drinking Listerine in order to get drunk. King haughtily responded that he did not drink Listerine because Scope tasted better and had a hint of mint.

After an intervention in the late ’80s, King has since remained sober.

9)John Daly

John Daly began drinking beer at age eight, then wine, then Jack Daniels whiskey at age 14.

His career and personal life has had its share of  ups and downs. He has won big tournaments, had several marriages dissolve into divorce, been arrested for alcohol-related crimes, gotten into fights with fans, and been suspended from the PGA more than once.

Recently, Daly and a woman with whom he appeared to be very familiar were photographed during a boozing session flashing their chests to the camera.

10)Alex Trebeck

Alex Trebeck has been the long time face of the game show jeopardy. He always appears to have a calm cool demeanor.

But in a clip of several promo outtakes from 1990, Trebek can be seen drinking beer between takes, flubbing his lines, and in response to his mistakes, yelling various curses and expletives. The clip transcends the mundane when Trebek appears to be drinking a clear liquid from what can only be described as a chalice. What is vodka, Alex?
